An immediate opportunity exists for a Senior Electrical Power Engineer in our Edmonton Buildings Group.

Your Duties:

You are able to resolve engineering design issues as well as develop project scope documents, estimates and project proposals. Experience with building power distribution systems, power equipment assessments, as well as familiarity with power apparatus, rounds out your abilities to supervise project teams and collaborate with teams from other disciplines to deliver on-time, on-budget results.

 

Responsibilities:

    •  Become a team player in a group of Electrical Engineers and CAD Personnel.
    • Interface with the client and other disciplines, working to meet project goals.
    • Interface with the CAD and BIM/3D system.
    • Write electrical power equipment supply and install specifications.
    • Develop one line drawings, elementary and connection wiring diagrams, including transformers, switchgear, and motor control centres.
    • Prepare project drawings, including power equipment layouts, building systems, grounding, cable trays, cable and conduit schedules, and other drawings that make up an overall electrical system.
    • Prepare power, control and instrument cable routing and termination sheets.
    • Perform power system and protective coordination studies.
    • Complete coordination studies using computer software.
    • Complete arc flash studies using computer modeling software.
    • Assist the Project Manager/Senior Designer in preparing engineering reports.
    • Asses existing power distribution system installations and prepare technical evaluation reports.
    • Assist the Project Manager/Senior Designer in preparing working drawings.
    • Assist the Project Manager/Senior Designer in preparing technical specifications relative to power distribution systems, grounding, motor control centres, etc.
    • Work independently on smaller projects to complete these tasks for the project.
    • Keeping up-to-date on new products, technologies, design processes and drafting techniques.
    • Coordinate design work with other disciplines, other offices and other project team members. 
    • Providing power load calculations on various buildings.
    • Sizing and specifying of power distribution components including switchgear for medium and low voltage systems.
    • Sizing, specifying grounding systems for various commercial buildings and systems.
    • Ability to meet assignment schedule and deliver quality products under pressure.
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
    • Graduate of an engineering degree program required.
    • A minimum of 7+ years of general design experience in power distribution and generator design for commercial and institutional buildings.
    • An understanding of the principals involved in preparing construction documentation.
    • Thorough understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code.
    • Working knowledge of commercial design practices and construction methods.
    • Familiar with SKM and/or ETAP suite of products will be a definite asset.
    • Sound working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of office products.
    • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
