Stantec is seeking a Business Centre Managing Leader (BCML) to lead and execute the Dartmouth  and St John’s Business Centre (BC) strategy as part of the Oil & Gas Business Line strategy. 

Your Duties

The Business Centre Managing Leader, Oil & Gas directly reports to the Regional Business Leader (Eastern Canada, O&G) with connections to the Regional Leader (Nova Scotia and Newfoundland).  The BCML will:

  • Optimize Stantec’s core business processes, introduce innovative ideas, and foster operational excellence;
  • Work well within collaborative teams across Stantec to maximize opportunities within the overall Stantec client base;
  • Engage in long/ short term planning and the management of resources are key responsibilities of this position;
  • Attract and retain key people within the organization and have a good reputation within the Oil &Gas industry. 
  • Lead the team and ensure they are empowered to fulfil their responsibilities and hold them accountable for meeting their goals.
  • Conduct billable work for our clients for 50% of their time as a project manager, project engineer or discipline engineer

Key accountabilities: 

  • Accountable for the implementation of corporate policies, procedures, and organizational structure for the BC founded from within the Stantec framework;
  • Supervise the multi-disciplinary teams within the BC that includes approximately 35 personnel;
  • Accountable for the execution of the project work from an operational, financial and resource standpoint within the BC;
  • Accountable for providing and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and managing the environmental aspects within the BC;
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Quality and Business System Integration Teams within the Oil & Gas Business Line;
  • Oversee Stantec’s financial accountability and controls; ensures appropriate fiscal controls are in place to meet corporate compliance as well as business needs for the BC;
  • Accountable for the BC’s budget process as per the Stantec process; establishes timelines; provides support to management team; holds management teams accountable for process. Such budgets shall be in sufficient depth to form the basis for the planning process and for financial performance comparisons;
  • Responsible for preparation of monthly, quarterly and/or annual reporting, and other outreach material (website, SharePoint sites…etc.) as required;
  • Accountable for compliance with Stantec’s HR Policies and Procedures, and recommends additions to, and/or modification of, in concert with the Oil & Gas Business Line Leadership Team;
  • Accountable for office space and office system’s needs for the BC, including purchasing equipment, supporting hiring/ on-boarding processes, and other office related items;
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the Oil & Gas Business Line and/or Region.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, and/or related field required.
  • 10+ years of direct work experience in a management capacity in the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • 15+ years of working experience in the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Possess the following personal qualities: integrity, accountability, creativity, high standards, ethical values, and achievement oriented.
  • Excellent organizational, strategic, planning and implementing skills.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments, key business partners, and clients.
  • Able to identify and analyze information to give early warnings of potential problems, investigate and recommend corrective action.
  • Strong presentation, written, and verbal skills with ability to clearly convey information to a variety of audiences.
  • Can negotiate skillfully in challenging situations with both internal and external groups.
  • Proven skills to interact effectively with employees in order to direct work flow, assess performance and assign duties.
  • Must be comfortable and competent in a range of venues when there is need to represent the organization as required.
  • Performs well under pressure.
  • Works effectively in an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment, and is able to direct and work in harmony with a diverse group of highly motivated and capable individuals.
