Stantec is currently seeking an Intermediate Planning Technician for our Calgary, AB office. The position is part of the Community Development practice’s Planning & Landscape Architecture group that routinely works on a variety of public agency and private development projects including the design and development of urban parks, downtown redevelopment, new town planning, recreation and sports facilities, resorts and tourism, town center/commercial development, master planned communities, natural open spaces, redevelopment of flood affected areas, transit oriented development, and involvement in significantly high-profile national and international design projects.

Your Duties

  • Perform computer-aided drafting and design tasks, including preparing maps, data management, graphics production, statistical analysis, and other technical support tasks.
  • Assisting staff on a variety of design and development related projects, undertaking planning and development investigations.
  • Communicating with other multidisciplinary team members on relevant aspects of projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • A Technical Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in planning from a recognized Institute of Technology or College.
  • Knowledge and experience of planning terminology, practices, procedures, standards and work methods in the Calgary Region.
  • Demonstrated high standard of quality, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task within specific time constraints.
  • Excellent communication both written and oral, along with strong problem solving skills.

Technical Requirements:


  • Strong understanding of a current version of AutoCAD design software. Civil 3D and/or Land F/X is required.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Sketchup.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.
  • ArcGIS, 3D Studio, Rhino, etc. would be considered an asset.
