We are currently seeking a Team Lead, Materials to join our Oil & Gas group in the Calgary 59th Ave office


The primary role of the Team Lead - Materials is to organize and manage a diverse team of engineers and technical specialists working on asset integrity related projects in the specialized areas of: materials selection, metallurgy, welding, fracture mechanics, and fitness for service of a variety of material degradation mechanisms.


The Team Lead will function as the Project Manager and Technical Resource Specialist for evaluating and developing client focused material’s solutions and programs.


The responsibilities of the Team Lead fall into three (3) categories: technical, administrative and business development. The relative amount of these categories will vary, depending upon project workload.

Your Duties


  • Provide expertise in materials engineering
  • Practical Experience with oil/gas and/or industrial operations (pipelines, plants, processing facilities)
  • Provide practical solutions for addressing regulatory requirements and industry best practices in regards to the development and application of integrity management systems, programs and projects
  • Provide expertise with the design, development, application and interpretation of material degradation and integrity inspection and monitoring techniques and programs
  • Provide expertise with conducting engineering assessments, pipeline risk assessments, risk based inspections, corrosion assessments, failure analysis
  • Strengthen technical knowledge through on-the-job, informal and formal training


Project Management/Administration:

  • Provide Leadership to the team
  • Project scoping, budgeting and schedule development
  • Tracking project progress and reporting progress to division manager and clients
  • Resource planning and forecasts for project execution (minimizing non chargeable time)
  • Support annual employee reviews and career development planning
  • Mentor team personnel technically and administratively
  • Be familiar with, and ensure appropriate reference material is utilized at all times
  • Ensure project deliverables are properly prepared, checked, reviewed and approved for submittal
  • Liaise with Integrity Team Leads and STANTEC Service leaders
  • Compliance with STANTEC’s EH&S program, with a focus on field safety


 Business Development:

  • Maintain positive relationships with existing clients
  • Support divisional marketing effort and assist in growth of Integrity Division
  • Prepare Integrity proposals
  • Strengthen STANTEC’s visibility within the integrity technical community through active association and participation in technical associations and societies

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Relevant engineering degree or diploma
  • P.Eng. status recognized by APEGA or P.Tech. (Eng.) status recognized by ASET with the appropriate practical experience and qualifications recognized by NACE, ASM, API
  • 15+ years related to materials engineering and asset integrity experience within the Canadian oil and gas industry
  • Experienced with Canadian and/or U.S. standards, practices and applicable legislation, such as CSA Z662, Alberta Pipeline Act and Regulations, API, ASME and U.S. DOT
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in conducting fitness for service and risk assessments
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in supporting Integrity Management Programs
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills are essential
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience (managing multiple small projects simultaneously)
  • Demonstrated initiative, leadership and self-motivation
