Through a team of marketing professional direct reports, the Marketing Team Lead, Buildings works directly with the Director of Marketing & Communications, and leadership to establish Stantec’s desired market position within our target market sectors; develop strong, lasting relationships with key clients; identify market opportunities; and, create winning proposal submissions/presentations and communications in the pursuit of specific project opportunities.  As a key partner to the various local leadership team including Principles and Senior Associates, strong communication skills are essential.


This position will be based at our Stantec office located downtown Toronto, ON.

Your Duties


  • Assist in recruiting, motivating, and providing ongoing leadership, and coaching to a team of marketing professionals within the region who work directly with leadership and practitioners to implement and achieve the goals of the annual business plan.
  • Responsible for the guidance, supervision, and performance of direct reports.
  • Provides input and/or may be responsible for the hiring, evaluation, and termination of the regional marketing team.
  • Manage team workload.


Strategic Pursuits

  • Support top regional buildings strategic pursuits, driving strategy – managing and leading the development of response with regional resources.
  • Monthly review of regional buildings strategic pursuits status – verify all active pursuits are updated with project details, key pursuit team members, revenue, background, and proposal materials.
  • Assist in identification, development and nurturing of B2B relationships for buildings within the region.
  • Assist local leadership in strategizing team members, potential partner firms, people/projects, and overarching approach for all buildings strategic pursuits regionally.

Account Management

  • Work with Account Manager’s (AMs) to identify and develop AM plans during planning cycle.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to AMs to develop tactical plans to roll out over the course of the year complete with KPI’s and key activities.
  • Conduct regular frequency calls with regional AMs to measure progress against target/budget.
  • Develop and support regional SOQ and client focused BD materials to support the AM teams and seller-doers in BD activities.


Developing internal excellence:

  • Content generation: develop and maintain content/narrative on frequently asked questions and current industry/regional trends to inform response development.
  • Collect and share best practice examples of proposals with regional teams and sector leadership.
  • Share trends/content with regional/sector teams to support BOU-wide excellence.
  • Leading the ongoing development efforts of key qualification materials – including but not limited to, project descriptions, resumes, client testimonials.
  • Mentor and support buildings regional team leads in the development of content and comprehensive proposals, presentations.
  • Facilitate and recommendations for Go/No Go on opportunities.
  • Analysis RFP response – lessons learned – what’s working/not working.
  • Leverage Stantec network of experts across the company to leverage value proposition.
  • Use reporting functions to support conversations with leadership and regional marketing team members.
  • Advocate holistic adoption of system use and reinforce the power of our systems to simplify our processes related to marketing and BD.

Delivering Market Insight: Market Research / Business Planning Excellence

  • Work with market research team to develop buildings focused market research in advance of annual business planning.
  • Support leadership the socialization of sector/regional plans and strategic objectives, measure progress against goals throughout year.
  • Support and participate in ad-hoc research projects throughout the course of the year, as necessary.
  • Conduct regular market scans monthly to stay abreast of market trends and insights and share with leadership and marketing teams.
  • Understanding the competitive landscape and providing leadership with recommendations to influence overall market position & strategy.


Content Marketing

Participate and support Buildings CM strategy, leading regional multi-sector contributions for:

  • Content calendar.
  • Monthly Review of content marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Research industry themes and trends for topic generation.
  • Assist leadership with the generation of content.
Oversight and direction of .com pages specific to Buildings within GTA including:

  • Regular review of people and projects to ensure current work and expertise of sector is well-represented.
  • Work with PR and local marketing team members to develop campaigns which feature people/projects/creativity and enhance the Stantec brand.

Brand Awareness

Develop and implement strategy to build brand awareness through a coordinated program focused on thought leadership, design excellence and creativity. Identify priority projects and thought leaders on an annual basis and develop robust plan to promote through:

  • Key high profile and/or industry events in GTA.
  • Traditional and social media.
  • Industry awards.
  • Conferences & tradeshows.
  • White papers.

Leading Communication Excellence

Identify opportunities for internal and external communications throughout the course of year inclusive of:

  • Create key project wins/milestone news releases with regional PR and regional marketing staff.
  • Identify blogging opportunities and assist in generation of blogs – internal / external – related to current projects / themes or trends in industry.
  • Work with leadership to develop digital campaigns or e-cards which can be shared with clients and build brand awareness.
  • Act as ambassador on social media sites. Work with PR team to encourage thought leaders and employees to participate in social media promotion.
  • Internal communication including but not limited to inhouse expert profiling, lunch and learns, etc.

Your Capabilities and Credentials


  • Post-Secondary in business, marketing, communications, public relations, or an equivalent level of experience.
  • Minimum 15-20 years of progressive experience in a senior marketing role in a medium to large sized Architecture firm.

Other Requirements:

  • Detail oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills.
  • Ability to effectively balance conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with web-based tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge in the use of desktop publishing software such as InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior management, supervisors, peers, and clients, internally and externally.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills in small or large group environments.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of marketing and business development best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively within a group with 'team spirit' as well as independently motivated with minimal supervision.
