Reporting to the Canada East Public Relations Manager, the Public Relations Specialist is part journalist, part storyteller. The position plays a key role in supporting the general function of public relations counsel to leaders. Working in tandem with regional marketing teams, the Public Relations Specialist provides vital support in identifying, generating, and disseminating messaging, stories, and insight from practitioners and team counterparts for a variety of external platforms, including social media, traditional media, and the company’s external website.
Media Relations & Research
The Public Relations Specialist works closely with Public Relations Managers to foster and grow relationships with members of business and industry media at the local, regional, and national level. Assists in identifying, researching, and developing targeted media materials (e.g., news releases, story pitches, etc.) as well as maintaining the regional media databases to continuously strengthen our media outreach. The Public Relations Specialist also will proactively contact media members (jointly identified with the PR Managers) to communicate pertinent messages. The Public Relations Specialist will diligently monitor, measure, and report on the company’s regional media presence.
Social Media Content Support & Administration
This position works closely with the Public Relations Manager, the extended Regional Marketing and Sector Marketing teams, and practitioners to gather materials and content for use on the company’s various social media platforms, including the Stantec blog, Stantec.com, internal Community Sites, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, and LinkedIn.
Content Support – Copywriting & Editing
Strong story-telling and writing skills are essential for this role. The Public Relations Specialist is a champion of the Stantec brand and an expert in implementing the Stantec Voice and Style Guide. The Public Relations Specialist develops dynamic content for external communications channels (e.g. bylined articles, blogs, etc.). In support of the organization’s branding initiatives, the Public Relations Specialist assists Public Relations Manager in adapting content provided by marketing and technical staff for use on promotional channels.
As part of the centralized Public Relations Team, this individual embraces a collaborative work environment and regularly meets with the Public Relations Manager to establish weekly priorities, assignments, and progress toward long-term goals. The Public Relations Specialist participates in larger Public Relations and Digital team meetings, as needed, to discuss specific initiatives and contribute to brainstorm sessions for story and promotional campaign development and content marketing strategies.
Thought Leadership Engagement & Development
Contributing to our people-driven culture, the Public Relations Specialist supports the larger goals of the Marketing, Communications & Public Relations team in identifying and engaging practitioners in thought leadership positioning activities and companywide campaigns (e.g. blogging, development of white papers, community engagement activities, etc.).
