Stantec has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Environmental Inspector to join our Calgary, AB based Environmental Services team on a long-term contract. Reporting to the Environmental Manager, the Chief Environmental Inspector will oversee the facilities environmental inspection program. A key role will be to ensure consistency between the Lead Environmental Inspectors (Lead EI) and that the consistency is driven through the Environmental Inspectors (EIs) and Aboriginal Monitors (AbMs). The Chief Environmental Inspector will be responsible to ensure the General Construction Contractors and EPCs fully understand the environmental issues and sensitivities of the project.

Your Duties

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Construction Monitoring & Inspection (CMI) Team, Project Managers and Client Construction Representative to resolve conflicts that may occur between Contractors, Technical Inspectors, and EIs/AbMs regarding environmental issues
  • Communicate clearly and on a timely basis with the Environmental Manager and the Senior Compliance Advisor regarding environmental issues including non-compliance issues
  • Coordinate with the CMI Team and Resource Management and Regulatory Specialist to ensure that appropriate environmental resources are on-site
  • Work with contractor teams to ensure trained personnel are qualified and in place to implement the environmental aspects of the project
  • Receive and review copies of all client and contractor environmental reports, incident reports, contractor environmental action plans and corrective action plans for the project
  • Oversee the work of the Lead EIs, EIs, and AbMs. Review all EI reports and ensure entry of environmental issues into the issues tracking list
  • Work closely with the CMI Team and Senior Compliance Advisor to verify that the environmental team is working effectively to monitor environmental compliance
  • Provide a daily summary report to the Project Manager, Environmental Manager, and Senior Compliance Advisor on contractor compliance with project mitigation requirements, permit conditions and environmental protection plans
  • Work with CMI Team and Environmental Manager to review and comment on proposed changes through the Management of Change process
  • Assist with training of EIs on communications, reporting requirements, and permit conditions and review of contractor plans as requested by Lead EI
  • Ensure standardization and consistency in implementation of environmental inspection, procedures, processes, and reporting across all spreads
  • Work with the CMI Team and EI Team Support Specialist to clarify environmental concerns and understanding of environmental requirements

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental Sciences discipline
  • Professional Designation (e.g. R.P. Bio or P. Bio.)
  • 10 + years industry experience with preference given to candidates with O&G, pipeline, or facilities inspection experience
  • Experience working collaboratively to mitigate conflicts between various groups on site
  • Proven success in building and managing relationships with clients and across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Leadership experience including training and mentoring junior staff and contractor staff
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to produce timely reporting and recommendations on non-compliance environmental issues
