Your Duties


Stantec has an opening in the GTA for a Contract Administrator with excellent leadership and communications skills to lead our construction resources for Ontario Southwest. The successful candidate will use her/his technical and management abilities to lead the municipal water infrastructure construction services group in a dynamic team setting. This individual works well under pressure, is flexible and positive, and can proactively identify and solve problems which could impact project performance.  This position will be based out of our offices located on Bathurst Street in Toronto. 


Applicants should have Construction and/or Construction Contract Administration experience within the Greater Toronto Area and have a well-founded understanding of general construction leading practices, techniques and technologies. Please include specific projects in your application, including your role on the project, project scope, and construction value. The successful candidate should have strong co-ordination and negotiation skillsets, a strong familiarity with applicable safety regulations, a commercial and technical risk management mindset, and the ability to apply and align these to meet both Stantec and Client needs.



  • Oversee site inspection and contract administration resources across five offices in Ontario Southwest, including providing direction on work responsibilities, coordinating standard practices and procedures and auditing quality of work product. Regular and frequent travel to project sites across this region is required;
  • Responsible for assessing and maintaining appropriate staffing levels per project requirements across the region;
  • Responsible for arranging health and safety training for staff as required for job duties, and maintaining a strong culture of safety throughout the region;
  • Perform contract administration duties and field observations as required for a variety of municipal water infrastructure construction projects (watermain and sewer construction and rehabilitation, pumping station/treatment facility construction and retrofits);
  • Clarification of drawings and specifications based upon direction provided by the Stantec project manager;
  • Review of shop drawings for compliance with construction contract documents;
  • Chairing construction meetings and preparing minutes;
  • Preparing construction progress reports;
  • Review of contractor invoices and preparation of monthly progress claims for submission to project owner;
  • Confirm that the contractor’s work is in general conformance with drawings and specifications and is progressing on schedule;
  • Assist with issuance of field instructions, change orders and other construction administrative documentation;
  • Review of contractor pricing associated with change orders;
  • Review of red line mark-up drawings provided by the contractor;
  • Assist with preparation and review of project record drawings;
  • Complete periodic field survey checks to ensure the contactor is installing infrastructure in the correct location;
  • Witnessing and documenting performance verification tests and monitoring contractor commissioning activities;
  • Liaise with clients, government and regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders;
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff;
  • Work with multidisciplinary team to ensure project deliverables are met; and
  • Prepare cost estimates and project budgets, and contribute technical content for proposals/bids and presentations.

Your Capabilities and Credentials



  • Post-secondary education in Engineering from an accredited University, or Civil Engineering Technology Diploma with applicable experience;
  • P.Eng designation, or C.E.T. with applicable experience and OACETT registration;
  • PMP designation or Construction Management are considered definite assets; and
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required for this position.


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience with municipal infrastructure projects, site inspection and contract administration experience; experience with water and wastewater infrastructure considered an asset;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and technical writing abilities;
  • Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, plan, schedule, and coordinate various activities relating to projects and proposal submissions;
  • Large diameter watermain and/or trunk sewer design/construction experience including pipeline rehabilitation and tunneling/trenchless installations;
  • Complex water and/or wastewater treatment facility and pumping station design/construction experience; and
  • Demonstrated time management skills to effectively complete deliverables when required.
