    For the upcoming 2018 field season, our Environmental Services team is currently looking for an Archaeological Field Supervisor to be based out of the Quesnel or Prince George offices in British Columbia.  The Archaeological Field Director will have experience supervising and directing field crews who are conducting archaeology or heritage resource management work including walkover survey, shovel testing, and archaeological excavation.

    Your Duties

    Working throughout British Columbia in various industries:


    • Identify and record areas of archeological potential, archaeological sites, and traditional use sites
    • Work closely with a Field Director to make technical recommendations for cultural resources management
    • Collect data and complete data management
    • Lead preliminary field reconnaissance surveys and archaeological impact assessments
    • Assist in archaeological monitoring and excavations
    • Manage crews of up to five individuals
    • Write permit applications, interim reports, final reports, site forms and proposals
    • Actively participate in Stantec’s HSSE programs

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    • Field Supervisor in the Interior Plateau cultural region with a minimum of 2 years of experience working in cultural resource management
    • Minimum B. Sc. in Archaeology, or BA in Anthropology with a major in archaeology
    • Experience identifying traditional use sites & features, CMTs, and lithic artifacts
    • Experience with lithic artifact analysis and cataloguing
    • Experience with mapping, pedestrian surveys, subsurface testing, excavation, data collection (field notes, photographs, digital information)
    • Excellent writing and communications skills
    • Dedicated to following and promoting a strong safety culture
    • Able to work independently
    • Able to work away from home/stay in hotels or camps for periods of up to 2 weeks during the field season (May-Nov)
    • Desire to work closely (in both leadership and supporting roles) with other environmental professionals and First Nations.
    • A valid class 5 driver’s license
    • Experience with driving on forestry roads and operating ATVs an asset
    • Willingness to learn and develop professionally is required
